The Tree-Free Home

What is a tree-free home and how do you create one? We are not saying that you should not have trees in your yard, no you want trees in your yard. However, we are thinking more about the inside of your home. Trees are a necessity in our world. Without trees, well, you really do not want to think of what this world would be like without trees. We rely on them for our very being, not to mention the animals around the world that rely on them as well.

So, how do you create a tree-free home?

All you really need to do is consider your habits and make a few changes. Many of us rely heavily on paper goods as a means to get by. Do not be ashamed, we all do it without even realizing because in many cases it just makes our lives easier. Right now, I am talking about napkins, paper towels, and paper plates.

These items really do make our lives easier. They are easy to throw away, take less time to clean up, and reduces the amount of laundry. However, with each one we use and throw away, we are helping to eliminate the trees in our world. All it takes in this area is to suck up the slight bit of extra laundry and use cloth. The great thing about cloth is that it can be washed and then reused again when needed.

When it comes to paper plates, no none of us really enjoy doing dishes; however, you are doing your part to create a tree-free home when you use traditional plates in place of paper plates.

Sometimes we cannot avoid using trees, but we can try to use items created from recycled items. This includes toilet paper, printing paper, and other such items. The goal here is to find those created with the highest amount of recycled items that you can. Of course, with toilet paper and printing paper, make sure that it is bleach free and recycled before you buy.

You could even try using alternative paper such as hemp paper for printing or use once-used type of paper. Consider this for note pads as well. If you have scraps, reuse them and make a notepad from it. You could also reuse them for letters and cards as well.

Instead of jotting down messages or notes for your home on paper, get a message board that can be reused instead.

If you are going to be performing any new construction on your home, instead of using new wood try composite, cob, wood that has been previously used, natural linoleum, bamboo, or straw bale.

When you want to create a tree-free home, it just takes some additional effort on your part. However, it is an effort that is well worth the results in the future.
