Cut Your Garbage Output

You might be doing everything you can to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. However, you find that you still have a large amount of garbage coming out of your home and you really cannot understand why. This is common; even if we think we are doing everything we can, we still have a great deal of garbage setting out for the garbage man each week.

So, how can you cut your garbage output? It is really very easy and you will be amazed at the reduction in garbage once you take these steps.

Plastic Grocery Bags

Some people choose to reuse their grocery bags when they go shopping, this is a great idea. However, if you are not doing this, save your plastic bags and start using them as liners for your trash cans.

Go Paper, Instead of Plastic

When you go grocery shopping, you are almost always asked, paper or plastic. If you are not reusing your plastic bags but throwing them away, say "paper" and recycle them. If they do not ask, request paper.

Do Not Throw Away Those Old Clothes

Believe it or not, clothing takes up a big part of our landfills. Instead of throwing them away, why not put them to good use and Reuse! They can easily be made into dust cloths, dish rags, oil rags, or anything for that matter. After use, they can be washed and used again.

Reusing Plastic Baggies or Bread Bags

There is really no need to throw these items away, reuse them. They can be easily cleaned out and used again, which make great containers when you need to take your lunch with you.

Say No To Processed Foods

This tip actually helps you in two ways. Processed foods are not really very healthy for your body and they create more waste from the packaging. Instead, avoid processed foods and make your own. It takes more time, but it is better for you and reduces the waste that you are throwing out with the garbage.

If you cut your garbage output, you are doing many things. First, you are saving space in your landfill. Second, you are reducing the amount of garbage bags that you must use. Third, you are saving yourself money, all at the same time.
